Well, I again appeared on local TV, both at noon and six PM, this time being interviewed by the Detroit station for doing my job... but for such an idiotic reason.

Flash back a few years, and Nike rents out a side of a building and puts a picture of Barry Sanders on it. Nice ad, 170 feet by 100 feet, overlooking a park. A few years go by, Barry retires, and they put up a Stanley Cup ad. Then Nextel put up a Steve Yzerman picture for the last two years...

Now my company got the contract to paint over the wall and make it ready for a new ad... and it suddenly is front page news! You'd think we personally KILLED Steve Y or something. The radio station has been talkig about who to put up on it, the TV crew sent someone down to interview me (since I was on the ground while the painters did all the work)... Hell, there's all kinds of rumors on why it's going down ("Hockey failed last year, so the owners are using it as a bargaining chip") to who is going up next ("Ben Wallace should have a turn.")

Not a single person realized it was an AD??? A paid for contract that has run out and time to put up something new? That it could just as easily be a Coca Cola sign as anything else? Give me a freaking break! I finally told everyone we were finishing our own mural: the white wall is now called "Michigan Winter."

Ah, for the good old days at the cons, where I got asked to sign toys that we didn't even make... Sheesh.

    Question

Did the Freep interview you? If so, I might have actually read the whole article.

You were one of the guys painting the other day? DAMN!

I had lunch at Hard Rock on Tuesday and noticed guys painting over the picture, had I known you were one of those guys standing over there, I surely would have started yelling insults and threatening to run you over for painting over Stevie!!

It's actually funny that this is making so much news. The guys I was having lunch with were going on and on about how terrible that was, and all I said was "See that Nextel in the corner, THEY must not wanted to keep paying for the ad"

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Funny you mention that, because putting a billboard OVER the whales was in the news just a couple months ago. Apparantly, the whales are a protected work of art, so they CAN'T be bastardized by the likes of Chet and his gang!!

Speaking of painting on walls, my little brother the grafiti artist finally got popped and went to court yesterday and had the book thrown at him.

He went in to court all cocky expecting he'd get the lenient treatment that the Turtl got.

For those of you who (unlike Andyman) don't get the Freep, the Trutl is a Detroit grafiti artist who tagged damn near EVERYTHING. The papers and news had features on the guy (actually group of guys - my brother being in that group) and he ended up turning himself in. While he was in the Police holding cell awaiting trial the other Turtls tagged the hell out of the Police Precinct which led the judge to dismiss the case.

Now my brother's fatal mistake is that, unlike the Turtl, he was caught IN THE ACT of painting a wall, AND the dumb shit was in the 'burbs doing it.

He ended up with felonious vandalism, 30 days in jail, 1 year probation and a several thousand dollar fine
